US DOT Bridge Law and Formula

Since Congress passed the “Bridge Law” in 1975 they have been using a
formula to calculate distribution of weight.  This is accomplished by spreading
weight over a longer distance or by adding axles.

California Axle Weight Restrictions/Guidelines

There are several ways to maximize your cargo weight in containers.  Based on container
size and differences in chassis’ you can get a lot of weight moving down the road.
Below is a chart that gives most of the variations in maximum cargo weight with axle weights.
